Gender Oppression through the Taliban's Ban on Beauty Parlours in Afghanistan

The recent ban on women’s beauty parlours in Afghanistan, enforced by the Taliban, is a fragmentation of the rights and freedoms of women in the country. On Tuesday, this decision was announced and confirmed by a government spokesman. He also added about the existing restriction of women from education, public spaces, and most forms of employment since the Taliban seized power in August 2021.

These restrictions have significantly curtailed the autonomy and participation of women in Afghanistan. Women’s right and gender equality remain critical global issues that are quite concerning. The government needs to advocate more on such issues that are a barrier to the freedom of women and girls, as they are equally entitled to the same opportunities and choices as men.
