What is Moderation?
Also known by some as Temperance, Moderation is creating balance in your life between important areas of your life, such as: work, play, rest and exercise. It is about doing not too little or not too much of any one thing. If you work all the time this is not moderation. Using self discipline, and time management to ensure your life includes variation and doing things neither to excess or too little is moderation.
Why Practice Moderation?
Moderation helps us to stay balanced and content. Without moderation we can be easily controlled by desires pulling us one way and then another, or else we can become excessive, such as overeating or become addicted to very harmful habits such as alcoholism, drug abuse or gambling. Moderation helps you have a life of more freedom because your best self stays in control of how you live.
How Do You Practice Moderation?
You practice moderation by knowing your own limits and what you need to function at your best. People are different. What is too much for some might not be enough for others and vice versa. Think about whether your life stays balanced and don’t allow any one thing, such as: your phone, computer games, food or even a person, rule your life. When you practice moderation, you are content having just what you need.
